Hermana Mercado's 9th Letter from Chile!

People here like my skin color. That's one thing I wasn't expecting about Chile. Yes, everyone here has dark hair, but they also have white skin. Hermana Nelson tells me it's because a lot of Germans came here. So some people here also have German last names.

Anyway, this was a good week. Patirica and her boys came to church for the first time this week! And they loved it! Felipe is so cute; he brought and Hermana Nelson and I cookies when we went to pick them up!
And Francisco finally got confirmed this week! He's one of our investigators who got baptized a while ago, but due to some problems, his confirmation had to be delayed. The thing that's helped him the most has been us passing by almost every day to read the Book of Mormon with him. It's amazing the power that book has.

And now we're starting to teach Andres, the stepdad of Chris, a jovencita we've been teaching. The Book of Mormon has sparked his interest, and he's started to read. Last week, we taught him about prophets and that we have a prophet and apostles today. His reaction was kind of like, "There's a prophet?! Why aren't you telling people this?" Hermana Nelson and I were like, "Well, that's what we're here for!" Anyway, we got him to commit to come to at least one session of General Conference to come and see for himself.

But I get where he was coming from. It seems that everyone in the world knows there's a pope, but not everyone knows there's a prophet. Maybe we should be telling more people. I mean how hard is it to ask someone, "Did you know there's a prophet?" And General Conference is an amazing time for us to invite our friends and family to come and see. Let us share this wonderful knowledge that we have, that God has not left us alone to fend for ourselves. He loves us just as much as he loved the people in the past, and so he continues to provide us guidance through a living prophet.

Just something to think about.
